Building a Legacy that Lasts

Our story starts in 1984, when my dad, Ed Lane, founded Lane Homes with a simple promise: do the job, and do it right. From the beginning, I was by his side—digging, hammering, cleaning up job sites, and learning everything I could. One Christmas Eve, as snow came down, we worked on a client’s roof. That moment has always stuck with me. It was a perfect example of the values my dad built the company on: commitment, quality, and pride in our work.

From Summer Jobs to Business School

As a kid, I spent every summer working at Lane Homes—canvassing neighborhoods, running materials, and helping on projects. My dad taught me that hard work always pays off. That lesson carried me through college, where I earned a business management degree while working two jobs to pay my way. After graduating in 1997, I joined the company full-time, starting as a carpenter’s apprentice. I learned the finer points of construction in the field, then transitioned into the office to help clients bring their renovation dreams to life.

A New Chapter, Same Values

Eventually, I took on a larger role—managing operations, leading client relationships, and shaping our future. I was honored to be named a “40 Under 40” by Remodeling Magazine and to serve as President of the NARI Richmond Chapter. When my dad began stepping back, I took the reins. Then came the Great Recession. It was tough, but with his support and a dedicated team, we pulled through. By 2016, we were back to full strength. That same year, I officially purchased Lane Homes from my father. Shortly after, Dad faced a new challenge: cancer. He stepped away to focus on his health, and I stepped up to carry on his legacy. Thankfully, both he and the business emerged stronger than ever.

Today, we’re a team of 25 award-winning designers, skilled craftsmen, and dedicated project managers. We specialize in large-scale renovations that honor our clients’ vision, investment, and lifestyle. At Lane Homes & Remodeling, we believe in doing the job right—and treating every home like it’s our own. I’m Edward Lane, second-generation owner. For over 35 years, we’ve helped Richmond families design their dream and build their future. And we’d be honored to help you do the same.
