Top Remodeling Trends in 2015

As we enjoy the beginning of an exciting new year, now is a good time to look back at some top remodeling styles from the last couple of years. In 2014, we saw things like enlarged kitchens, built-in storage, and freestanding tubs. Let's take a look at a few of the biggest remodeling trends from 2015.

White & Gray

blake kitchen

The ever-popular white kitchen seems to have some competition… Gray is taking over as the new “IT” color of choice. With undertones that can go cool or warm, it’s a stunning new neutral that everyone wants.

Rectangle Tiles

Large scale rectangular tiles are back on the rise. 12x24 is a popular size selection for bathroom tiles, both in the shower and on the floor. Bonus: Less grout to have to keep clean!

Freestanding Tublazear

The large soaking tubs are being replaced with freestanding tubs, which are available in a variety of unique materials and styles. Freestanding tubs have been back on the rise in the last few years, so we have a feeling they will be a lasting style. You can go traditional with a classic claw foot or modern with a sleek and simple profile. What's your style?

Subway Tile with Insert

White subway tiles have always been a safe choice when it comes to kitchen backsplashes, but homeowners and designers are mixing it up with inserts in different patterns. The chevron pattern shown creates textural interest while still keeping the color palate cool and neutral. If these trends are any indication for 2016 trends, it is shaping up to be a bright, fresh year! Contact us today to get the design and trends that fit you and your life perfectly.  To see and compare these trends from those of the year before, check out our Top Remodeling Trends in 2014.

Small Kitchen, Big Transformation – Part 3

Here’s the final video of our Small Kitchen, Big transformation series. The dated kitchen has been replaced with a better layout, more modern finishes, and an overall light and neutral color palette. This kitchen renovation shows that you don’t always need more square footage, just a design that can better utilize the existing space.

Hurricane Preparedness at Home

Katrina. Sandy. Isabel. Joaquin.

If you call Virginia or other parts of the East Coast your home, you have most likely experienced hurricane and similar inclement weather. This weekend, it is as important as ever to take caution, stay up-to-date with the weather, and stockpile food, first-aid supplies, and other necessities.

It is also crucial to equip your home to be ready for Hurricane Joaquin.

Follow these tips and ideas for hurricane preparedness at home:

  • Make plans to secure your property.

    • Option 1: Use permanent storm shutters, which offer the best protection for windows.

    • Option 2: Board up windows with 5/8” marine plywood, cut to fit and ready to install. Tape does not prevent windows from breaking.

  • To reduce roof damage, install straps or additional clips to securely fasten your roof to the frame structure.

  • Be sure trees and shrubs around your home are well trimmed.

  • Clear loose and clogged rain gutters and downspouts.

  • Determine how and where to secure your boat.

 FOTW_SignCampaign for blog

We're thrilled to bring back our Families of the Wounded Fund (FOTWF) sign campaign for a second year!

Thanks to your generosity, we raised over $1,450 for the organization, which provides support to family members and caregivers of military service men and women who have been wounded in combat or injured as the result of line-of-duty activities in support of combat operations.

For our second annual campaign, the goal is to display more signs and to give more exposure to FOTWF.

Like last year, we'd like to place a sign in your yard starting Friday, September 18th through Monday, September 28th to raise awareness for FOTWF.

This year, we're doubling our own donation amount. For every sign put up, we'll make a $10 donation on your behalf to the organization.

Please let us know by Monday, September 14th if you would like to support this charity by placing a sign in your yard.

If you're interested in contributing or would like to learn more about the organization, please visit the FOTWF website. Every penny of your donations go to Families of the Wounded Fund.
